WSL Qualifying Series International 6000

The Xacobeo Norte Surf Fest 2026 will host a WSL Qualifying Series International 6000 event, one of the most important tiers of the World Surf League’s international qualifying circuit.

The competition awards 6,000 points towards the world rankings, representing a decisive opportunity for athletes competing on the Qualifying Series and aiming to qualify for the Challenger Series. 

Throughout the week, Leça da Palmeira Beach will welcome some of the world’s best surfers, with athletes from all five continents taking part.

Andy Martin was a surf correspondent for The Times (London) and The Independent. He has written three books about surfing: Walking on Water, Stealing the Wave and Surf, Sweat and Tears. When he’s not surfing, he works as a screenwriter and is a Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund.

A coastal and environmental engineer, researcher and surfer, João has built an international career that has taken him from Portugal to New Zealand, always working at the intersection of ocean science, surfing, education and the resilience of coastal communities.

With more than 35 years of experience, Martin Dunn has coached the Australian National Surfing Team, led coach education programmes for the International Surfing Association (ISA), and mentored some of the world’s best surfers.

Franco-American, born in the Basque Country, she became a two-time European champion as a teenager and went on to build a career in competitive surfing. She eventually stepped away from the competitive circuit to rediscover in surfing and music two different forms of expression that influence and grow alongside one another.

Dian Hadiani is a renowned Indonesian author and researcher whose work focuses on the intersection of surfing history, coastal heritage and environmental sustainability. Her book, The Chronicles of G-Land, tells the story of Grajagan, one of the world’s most iconic left-hand waves.

Chris Hines has been working in environmental advocacy for more than 35 years. He was a co-founder and director of Surfers Against Sewage and is recognised as one of the leading environmental activists and agents of change in the surfing world.
